After a year long hiatus, Unapologetic Burlesque is back! This time we are shaking things up - instead of a curated show, we are hosting an open mic night and we want you to take the stage! You’ll have 5 minutes to reveal a story, a truth, yourself. Bring your words, your movement, your songs, get your burlesque on. It’s been a long winter, let’s peel away the layers of feelings and clothes. Reveal it!
------
ACCESSIBILITY INFO:
The first two rows of seating at this event will be reserved for folks with chemical sensitivities/injury, folks who have wheelchairs or mobility devices, who need to sit, read the screen, and people of colour.
Live Captioning of Hosts, intros and bios will be provided.
We will have hosts this show that provide active listening support on both nights in case something happens at the event that brings up things for audience members and/or performers that they may want to talk with someone about. If at any time you feel as though you need to leave the space, we welcome you to take best care of yourself and we offer this tips to support you:http://www.vanissar.com/blog/emotional-first-aid-for-the-holidays-or-anytime/
Please come to this event scent-free! At a minimum don’t wear perfume, colognes, essential oils, and be conscious if you use things like hair or skin products that have scents/chemicals. Fabric softeners in your clothing can be super harmful for folks with chemical/scent allergies so stay away from that!
Washing the clothes you're wearing to the show with a tbsp of baking soda. If you will be smoking at the show, please bring a something to either change into, or take off after you've smoked in it. Please smoke away from the entrance. Also, if you end up coming to the show wearing something scented, try to wash it off. Thank you for making this show safer for folks with chemical sensitivities!
The venue is wheelchair accessible. See pinned post below for accessible bus routes to the Gladstone.
Childminding is available upon request. Please include names, ages, allergies and anything else that we may need to know!
Finally, we are always learning about how to make our spaces more accessible. This is an ongoing process and we will continue to update the event page with information around accessibility. Please contact Shaunga or kumari with any questions, concerns or issues that you may have about accessibility at this event.

world pride is coming!
we have much to celebrate, as our resiliency and presence as superqueeros go back for centuries and histories all around the world.
this celebration is happening here on this ground, now in this moment, and while so much of pride celebrations get co-opted into white, rich, cis male depoliticized versions of things - we for certain will not stay silent.
in the midst of all of this, we invite you to be your most badass self, get your burlesque on, and share with us as we present the ground from which we grow!
What lies in the ground from which we grow? How do we cultivate our bodies, our relationships, our lives to grow into our fullness when we’ve been uprooted or displaced?
What has happened before on this ground matters. what is happening now matters. How we got here matters. Whether we’ve always been here, whether we got here through escape and seeking refuge, or whether our ancestors carry histories of conquest and creating displacement. We are making intentional time to listening and to share stories of pain, resilience, complexity. How do you find ground, respect the ground, no matter where you are? What are the seeds inside of us – that maybe we don’t have language for yet? How do we plant and share richness that will grow us into who we want to be as people and as communities?
come to the show to witness seasoned performers, new performers, shape-shifters, trouble-makers who are People of colour, Black, Indigenous, queer, genderqueer, trans, people of varying body sizes, people of all abilities, people who are playing with burlesque or re-invent it completely!
This show marks the 6th Unapologetic Burlesque showcase! We’d love to have you join us to celebrate the growth, nourishment and stories that our pasts, futures and presents hold. If you are interested volunteering as a Host (Active Listener + Accessibility Usher), Closed Captions Clicker, Backstage or for Photo or Video please let us know.
This is gonna be good y’all.

It is about the fruits we share and enjoy with one another, that have grown from intentional work rooted in love. This fundraiser is about planting seeds, investing in the growth, sustainability and abundance of Unapologetic Burlesque. It is about celebration: the fruits, roots and spines of Unapologetic Burlesque which exist in the abundance of our energies, stories, and people.
Join us for an incredible evening of stories and performances that will showcase...
the fruits we collect, store and share
how deep our roots travel underground and hold us planted
how far our spins extend outward
the way we find anchors in ourselves and each other
& of course the way we sparkle and glitter!
As mentioned, this is a fundraiser for Unapologetic Burlesque! All proceeds will go toward the show, and to create accessibility and sustainability funds so we can continue to grow!

** Special throughline story that will make this night unlike any unapologetic burlesque show you’ve seen yet!
------
Almost one year ago, unapologetic burlesque launched its first showcase with a bang! Folks supported in whatever ways they could to make a halloween showcase that was anti-racist, consensual and blew all our expectations away! Since then we queered valentine's day with stories that went deeper and braver than the average heart and we brought pride back to its fierce and radical roots. To honour our tradition of messing with holiday stereotypes/expectations and to challenge, create new meanings, and continuously surprise ourselves, this winter we are organizing our very own superqueero holiday potluck - dinner is the show, and you're invited!
It’s getting colder, and along with the weather, sweaters, leg warmers and comfort food, a whole load of feelings, desires, memories, and wishes are brought to the surface. How does your superqueero spirit carry you through the bright lights and coming togethers? How can we mix-n-match, re-define, and create our own holiday celebrations that exist beyond “the family dinner dream”? We're looking for performers to bring your best tasty treats, secret recipes and your most scandalous stories about your awkward family dinners, disasters, and drama. We want to witness your journeys in creating/sharing chosen family and love and your dreams about what family, home, celebration and resilience can be. We hope that you can bring the things you always wish you could have said, or parts of yourself you wish you could have shown at any holiday gathering! Bring your food for thought, food from the heart, and food to share!
What will you bring to the party?
We can’t wait!

Lost and Found - what is REVEALED when we uncover the spirit of pride? What does pride mean to us, how has it changed over time, what have we let go of, what have we hung onto? Have we as individuals and communities found everything we need in Pride? what are we still at a loss for?
This show is also about the things in ourselves that are continually lost and found: people, places, moments, feelings. Sometimes when we lose things it is devastating, it is a relief, loss can come as a sudden upheaval, it can be a slow burn. Sometimes when we find things there is surprise, excitement, fear, freedom; both what we lose and find can jolt us from one phase of life to the next.
This show marks the 3rd Unapologetic Burlesque showcase, and we have been deeply reflecting on our experience as organizers as well as on the feedback we’ve received from many folks since our first run. One thing that is clear is that there is a need for these spaces not only for the sake of entertainment, but for a deep collective desire to share and listen to stories, memories, experiences and emotions that we don’t have room to express in our everyday lives, but that are too loaded tender, and explosive for us to carry alone. The lost and found within us can thus be shared among us.
This time around you’ll notice that the structuring of the show, as well as the behind-the-scenes work will be run a little bit differently. Some of these changes reflect the need for us as organizers to share some of the responsibilities and tasks involved in organizing the show; to prioritize payment for performers, crew and organizers that more closely reflects the amount of work put in; to build and share more structures of support around tender feelings and hard shit that comes up for performers and audience members; and to increase physical accessibility of the event by having two nights (that we hope will allow for more space to sit, stand, and enjoy the show)

Have you ever had a secret, a wish , an emotion, an invaluable piece of knowledge that you might not have had the space or words to share, but that you can no longer keep silent?
Letters we’ve never sent can range from confessing being in love with a best friend, to having conversations with ancestors, to speaking to the parts of ourselves that we don’t always acknowledge to anything in between.
Sometimes our letters exist in tucked away notebooks, e-mail drafts and lost in memories. Join us as we unapologetically send our letters out into the world.

Halloween is often a time where cultural appropriation, racism, and trans misogyny through costumes is allowed and celebrated. This is a Halloween show for us to have fun and celebrate with each other in an anti-racist, trans-inclusive way (read: no cultural appropriation and/or trans misogyny!)
